Find the starting point
Review recent exercises and group errors: calculations, understanding the problem, choosing a method and showing working.
Map the prerequisite skills
New topics build on earlier ones. If equations are difficult, check fractions and the order of operations before pushing ahead.
Explain, then practise
After a short worked example, solve a similar one independently and then change a condition. Understanding beats memorising a single pattern.
Return to old mistakes
Keep a short list of questions that were once challenging. Revisit them a few days later to test real understanding.
Measure specific progress
Compare tasks of similar difficulty. One school grade does not tell the whole story.
